One Room Challenge Reading Nook Mood Board

October 12, 2016 By BrightGreenDoor

Reading Nook Mood BoardHey friends! Thanks so much for coming back to check out week 2 of the One Room Challenge! In case you missed it last week I shared the space that I’m going to be overhauling over the next five weeks. I’m participating in Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge and am so excited to take you guys through the process!

One Room Challenge Room ORCMy plan for this space is to use Ikea Expedit bookcase’s to create built ins and a daybed. I purchased the white bookshelves, but after painting the stair spindles black I’m rethinking my color choice.

On a side note, don’t those black spindles look amazing? I’ve put together two mood boards with the exact same items, but one with black built ins, and one with white built ins.

So what do you think? Should I paint the built ins black, or stick with light and bright white? Either way the reading nook is going to look great. I haven’t nailed down every detail, but here are the main pieces that I’m going to use in the space:

Modern Daybed in Reading Nook

**Contains Affiliate Links** Plaid Buffalo Check Throw, Possini Pendant, Fitted Sheet, Midnight Florals Pillow, You are Loved Print, Fields Pillow, Modern Marble Pillow, Stormy Sunrise Print

Modern Art Prints from Minted

Stormy Sunrise Print &You are Loved Print– How great are these fine art prints from Minted? I love the way the watercolor print contrasts the hand lettered print. I also love the message that “You are Loved” for a space that we spend so much time reading with our kids in.

Modern Pillows from Minted

Modern Marble Pillow, Midnight Florals Pillow, Fields Pillow– These pillows are all from Minted too, and I’m LOVING the way these patterns work together. You might remember the floral print from the curtains in my master bedroom.Lamps Plus Possini LightPossini Pendant– A few months ago my friend Maggie Overby used this light fixture in a room, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I can’t wait to use it in this space.

Plaid Buffalo Check Throw– So I’m not sure if I’ll use a buffalo check blanket, a rug, or maybe some buffalo check wallpaper, but either way I’m finding a way to incorporate buffalo check into this space. Did you see my buffalo check round-up last month?

So now it’s time to stop shopping and get to work! I’ve got built-ins to build, a electrical light box to move, painting, doors to install, and so much more! While you wait on next week’s post here are some of the other mood board’s I’ve created:

I need that throw in my life ASAP, and I really like how the white pops against the black!

Isn’t the buffalo check great?! Thanks for your input, I haven’t been able to decide black or white!

oooh i love the plan and i vote black… BUT that being said black shows dust more easily than white, so something to consider with all those shelves.

That’s a super good point. The black may drive me totally crazy with the dust. Thanks friend!

I love the black. It’s more moody, which seems perfect for a reading nook.

Black would work well with the staircase! I say go black. ?

Love the mood board! It looks like you get lots of light so I wouldn’t hesitate to go black with the built-ins. But the white would look good too.

Thanks! It is a fairly bright space. Even after all this input I’m STILL undecided!
