I’m super excited to announce that starting this week I’m participating in Calling it Home’s “One Room Challenge”. It’s actually my first ORC ever! In case you’re not familiar with it, it’s six intense weeks where awesome bloggers from all over the place commit to completing one room, start to finish. Lately I’ve been taking on more design clients and have really not worked on our house at all! I decided that it’s about time to get in gear and tackle a room of our own: the master bedroom!
It’s come along ways since we moved into this house five months ago. Right away we scraped the ceilings, painted everything, and installed new lighting and flooring. We were so thankful to be able to move into the space that we haven’t done much since then.
Let’s talk about a few things that ARE working first. For one, I love the shell. This includes the flooring and wall color (BM Edgecomb Grey). I also love the Ikea curtains that I used in our last master bedroom. I also just purchased the headboard and wall mount sconces that I am totally loving *contains affiliate links*. The nightstands are here to stay as well.
Now let’s talk about what’s NOT working. When I purchased this light fixture I didn’t realize quite how small it was. I had envisioned something oversized to set apart this room as the “master”. Even though it’s pretty new I’ll probably put it somewhere else and get something more along the lines of what I was originally thinking.
Another thing that’s NOT working is all the open and empty wall space. I’d love to get a painting or lettered print for above the bed and for this big empty open wall.
In this corner I like my Sauder Ellis chair, it just needs some pillows or a throw, maybe even a side table or ottoman. I’m not sure about the bedding. We’ve had it a while now and it’s starting to get a little worn out. We’ll see if that’s in the budget or not!
Another thing that’s not working is the blue dresser. I LOVED it in the boy’s last bedroom, but it doesn’t fit into their current bedroom so it landed here. I’d love to find something that’s wood and Mid Century.
Along with the dresser not working neither is the empty wall above it. I’ll probably just re-use the same mirror I had up in our last house for this space.
As much as I LOVE our floors, I’d love to find nice rug to step out of bed onto in the morning. Finally I’d love to do SOMETHING with these closet doors. There’s not a ton of options, but I’m hoping to figure out SOME way to give them a little bit more character.
So there it is, my pitiful master bedroom. I hope you’ll follow along in the master bedroom makeover for the next six weeks to see what I can make of it! Head over to Calling it Home if you want to see what all the other participants are doing with their spaces!
