It’s finally here!!! The One Room Challenge reveal! For the last six weeks I’ve been working on our master bedroom, trying to transform it from a dark and dated space into a bright and modern retreat. In the last six weeks every last inch of this bedroom was updated. From the floors, to the walls, to the lighting, and even the closet doors! In case you’re new here, this is the bedroom I started with:
Now, let me walk you though our modern master bedroom reveal!
Because we don’t have air conditioning, a ceiling fan was a necessity for this space. Thankfully Lamps Plus provided a stunning fan that didn’t compromise the modern look of the bedroom.
In my original design I planned on using a smaller chair in this corner. After living with it for a few weeks I realized how much I like having a lounge chair here to sit and work from.Â
I actually got this Ikea Poang chair at a garage sale before I went off to college more than 13 years ago! I did sew a new cover for it this week to better match the bedroom.
As much as I love the look of a dark bedroom, my husband wasn’t buying into that trend. Instead I decided to go dark with the curtains and I am SO glad that I did. These curtains from Minted completely make the room.
This dresser was a thrifted find from a few years ago. I love everything about it and will probably hold onto it for a long time.
This art print was provided by Minted and looks like it was painted for this room. I’m so glad I chose the copper frame, because I love the way that it pulls the blush color from the curtains.Â
Let’s talk about this rug. I love how the traditional pattern works with the modern elements in this room. In some lights it looks grey, and in other lights it almost has a green hue to it. I love the way that it looks in every light!
Hanging curtains behind the headboard was a bit challenging, but I shared how I did it here.
When it comes to hanging art over the bed, I like simplicity. There’s just something unnerving about hanging a heavy piece of art right above where you lie your head every night! Instead this lightweight metal art was the perfect piece.
The two comforters are Nate Berkus for Target. You can find the black one here, but the cream and gold one is discontinued.Â
I’m not 100% positive how I feel about the Kilim pillow in this room. Whether it’s the perfect pop or color, or too much color? I found it on Etsy after browsing hundreds of Kilim pillow listings.
The nightstands both came with the thrifted dresser. They’re small enough and simple enough that I just love them.
My biggest DIY project from this room was the bi-fold doors that I converted into faux shiplap french doors.Â
They’re painted with Benjamin Moore “hidden falls”, and I’ve already got about five other things that I’d like to paint this color.
Maybe you can tell by the number of photos, but I’m completely obsessed with the closet doors. Every day I smile when I open them! They’re the perfect pop of color and I love how much character they add to the room!
The dresser is one that I’ve had around for a while. I don’t particularily love it, but I also haven’t found an affordable one that I like more. For now it’s staying. Eventually though I’m sure it will get swapped out.
The last detail is barely noticeable in the reveal, but we switched the bedroom door from being an “in-swing” door to be an “out-swing” door. This makes ALL the difference because now we aren’t constantly moving the door to walk past the foot of the bed. I also no longer run into the open door while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Although we now have a door at the top of the stairs, it is SO much better than in our walk path in the bedroom.
So there it is. After six weeks and MANY hours of hard work, it’s complete! I just LOVE every detail, and am so happy with how it all came together. Thank you so much for joining me for the modern master bedroom reveal! If you’d like to see more from any of the prior weeks here are those posts:

I HAVE to know where you got the shades for your windows! I scoured your whole blog post and couldn’t find any mention of the shades. You talked about the curtains, but where are the shades from?
So Sorry I didn’t include them! I’ll go back and edit the post to include the link. Here it is: https://amzn.to/2K3iT0Q. They’re super afforadable, and work awesome. This is the second house I used them in. Thank you!
