A few weeks ago I introduced you to the retro home that our good friends purchased. Currently they’re still in the planning stages, getting quotes, permits, and lining up contractors. While they work out those details, I’m over here having fun coming up with a game plan for the bathrooms! I’m loving all of the modern bathroom design inspiration that I’ve been coming across. In case you forgot, this is the current state of their three bathrooms:
Although they’re currently full of character, it’s not the character that they’re going for. Currently they’re trying to decide how much they’re going to tackle in each bathroom. In order to help our friends decide what direction to take their bathrooms, I started out by presenting some inspiration bathrooms to them. Each of these bathrooms has a modern vibe, with an assortment of dark and light elements. By seeing these bathrooms it helped them to identify different elements that they wanted for their bathrooms. (Please pin from the original sources).
Obviously we won’t make identical design choices for all three bathrooms, but I want them to have some common elements. Here are some of the design elements that I pulled from the inspiration images, just to help my friend nail down exactly which elements they wanted to move forward with.
Modern Vanity Choices
I am obsessed with floating vanities, but they’re not sure if they want a vanity that goes to the floor or not. I chose mostly double vanities, but I also tossed in one single vanity, because I love the way that two single vanities look when placed side by side. The color of the vanity could change depending on which flooring they choose. I probably wouldn’t do a black floor and a black vanity, or a white floor and a white vanity. This variety gives them many options.

Modern Mirror Choices
A mirror isn’t something that they need to choose yet, but I wanted to show them what a difference a modern mirror can make in a bathroom. It can add so much more than an unframed mirror.

Floor Tile Choices
I chose mostly black and white tile options, but I also tossed in one modern patterned choice. It fits the retro style of the house, and I think that patterned tile can add tons of character. It can also be really busy, so if they choose the patterned tile the rest of the choices will have to be fairly simple.Floor Tile Options- 1.Pattered Retro Tile 2.Large White Hex Tile 3.Black plank tile 4.Small White Hex Tile 5.Large Black Hex Tile 6.Black Slate Tile 7.Small Black Hex Tile
Modern Wall Options
There’s really no “right” way to do bathroom walls. They can be painted, planked, or tiled. My friend has been leaning towards accenting with blue, so I put two blue options in for tile. This could be used on a shower wall, a sink backsplash, or as a shower accent.
Wall Tile Options- 1.Marble Hex Tile 2.Blue Penny Tile  3.White planks 4.Blue Herringbone Tile 5. Benjamin Moore Midnight Oil Paint 6.White Subway Tile
As you can see they’ve got a lot of decisions to make! By first choosing inspiration images, and then breaking down the elements in those images, it will help them to see exactly what they want. We also have design decisions to make like lighting, art, textiles, and more! Once they’ve narrowed some of these choices down, I’ll be sure to share the final mood board! Here is an example of the mood board that I put together for our master bathroom (which still hasn’t been touched). Whether you’r renovating, or just love modern bathrooms, I hope this post inspired you! Thanks so much for stopping by and following along with this project!
That number 6 vanity is a beaut!
Isn’t it?! They all make me want to renovate my bathrooms!
