So we’ve been living in the Marquette house for 11 days now and we’re still not even close to being unpacked. Check out that view out of our dining room though! It’s pretty surreal and almost feels like our house is in a snow globe!
The packing has been slow because we moved here just in time for the best part of winter and we just can’t keep ourselves inside! Instead we’ve been busy skiing, watching Mase play hockey, and loving every second of the beautiful UP (Upper Penninsula). On this cold snowy weekend we even met this guy out surfing on the lake waves **brrrrr***!Even though I still have boxes to unpack, I can’t help but start figuring out design plans for this house! Last week I shared how I use inspiration photos to create a design plan. I also shared a bunch of farmhouse tables for under $1000.
Of all of my inspiration photos this one from Amber Interiors is the one I’ve really fallen in love with. As much as I LOVE the brass light, I think I’m going to stick with oil rubbed bronze being that the house is so traditional. I also really love those chair cushions, but know that cushions aren’t a reality with kids at the table… maybe just for the head and foot of the table?! Either way if I can create a room half as good as this one I’ll be happy.
So with the goal of creating a “Scandinavian Modern Dining Room” here are the items I’d love to use in the dining room. **Contains Affiliate Links**
Of course I won’t be going out and creating this look overnight. I love the modern plant stand from Ikea and I’m hoping to do a DIY knockoff using this tutorial here. As for the bar cart I’ll see how it all fits once the table and chairs are in the room. That’s one of the greatest parts about a slow design process is there is room for the space to evolve! I am really loving the black rug, but I’m also not sure about a rug in the space where the boys will be eating every meal. For the art I really love the buffalo as a nod to our home in North Dakota. I also love bison, and in black and white it really would be gorgeous.
As for those boxes… I’m not sure if you’ll be able to tear us away from the outdoors long enough to get them unpacked! Spring is sounding like a good season for unpacking!
**Update**Â To see how this room turned out check out the post here.
**3/14/16 Update** I ended up ordering a farmhouse table from World Market that delaminated and was quickly falling apart. I ended up returning it and we are again without a table!
If you’re liking this mood board you might love some of the others that I created here:
this is crazy similar to our eating area right now!! we have the same light fixture, a wooden table, black metal chairs, and a large black and white canvas of a skull and antlers (i actually considered the buffalo print). i am in major love with all the potential in your new home – and the property it’s on is unbelievable – we’re still kicking it in our little patch of grass 🙂
Great minds think alike right?!? My dad just hung the light for us while we are in Haiti, and I am STILL waiting for the table to be delivered! I haven’t gone for the art yet, maybe I can find a cheap printable or free print to blow up into an engineer bring?! I am also obsessed with all the potential… trying to enjoy the “now” while slowly making progress. Your little patch of grass has great neighbors though, which we don’t have. Being in a new town with no neighbors will be interesting trying to meet people.
