Bright Green Door

Come on in and be inspired!

Modern Mudroom with Wallpaper

April 26, 2017 By BrightGreenDoor

Hey friends! I’m back with another One Room Challenge Update! If you follow me on Instagram you might have already seen a sneak peek, but today I’m sharing all the details! Today I’m talking about this stunning wallpaper and live edge bench!Modern Mudroom with Bench and Hooks

First let’s chat wallpaper. It’s the Juncaceae removable wallpaper from WallsNeedLove. The minute I saw it I knew it would look AMAZING in my home. Juncaceae Wallpaper from Walls Need Love

Not too long ago I hung some beautiful wallpaper in our daughter’s room, and this stuff was SO much easier to hang! Honestly! The seams were easy to line up, and I was able to hang this entire wall alone in an hour! It brings such a beautiful pop of color to the room!

This week we also installed this GORGEOUS live edge bench from Rockler Woodworking. I found it with their assortment of “One of a Kind” wood and I LOVE it. If you’re looking for unique wood for any kind of project they’ve got an awesome selection.Green and Orange Modern Mudroom

Once it arrived I just cut it down to the proper size, sanded it, and then put two coats of a quick-drying polyurethane on it.Live Edge Mudroom Bench

I LOVE the wormholes, the bark, and the natural beauty that it displays!Live Edge Bench Seat in Mudroom

Although we’re keeping most shoes in our new storage cabinet, it also provides a great place for a few pairs of boots.Modern Mudroom Bench

We mounted the bench using four of these brackets from Rockler. As much as I LOVED the theater chairs that used to live in this mudroom, this is a better layout and provides more function than the theater seats did.Live Edge Bench in Mudroom

You might have noticed I’ve got a different rug in here than I did last week. Basically I’m playing musical rugs! This coral rug can be found here, but honestly I’m just not sold that it’s the right one! It wasn’t cheap and I’m afraid that with all the mud that gets tracked in here it will get ruined easily. I’m also not sure if it’s too bold with the bold wallpaper… what do you think?

In case you missed other One Room Challenge updates you can find them here: Mood Board, Faux Board and Batten & Light, & Locker Storage Cabinets. Here’s how the to-do list is looking for the next two weeks:

  • Install new light fixture
  • Install faux board and batten
  • Paint door
  • Install new hinges and door knob
  • Install window coverings
  • Assemble storage wardrobes
  • Paint and Stencil Flooring **in progress!**
  • Replace cream outlets and switches
  • Build barn door and track
  • Hang art above hook wall
  • Wood fill, caulk, and touch up paint
  • Wallpaper adult hook wall
  • Install bench under adult hooks

You might notice from the to-do list that stenciling the floor is BACK on the list! Yes… after going back and forth on whether or not to do it I decided to take the plunge! It really won’t have much impact in the mudroom because of the rug, but it will in the adjoining hallway and entry. I started stenciling last night and I can’t WAIT to share it with you! Lastly, this mudroom makeover would’t be possible without my amazing sponsors. I am SO grateful to: WallsNeedLove, Lamps Plus, Rockler, Blindster, D. Lawless Hardware, Amy Howard, Minted, and Sauder. Much of the product for this makeover was provided by these sponsors.

I love the wallpaper, and that bench is stunning! It looks finished already!! I like the rug you have in there too, a lot, but can see why you’re having second thoughts about it getting ruined. The colour is great though.

Thanks a ton! The rug is so great that I’m contemplating holding onto it and putting it in our daughter’s room! Otherwise maybe I just use it and pray my kiddos don’t totally destroy it with mud!

Thanks friend! It’s a fun space to go for a bold pop of color! Not many places would my husband go for bold floral wallpaper but in here it looks amazing!

Thanks! It’s coming along even better than I expected! I just shared a sneak peek of the stenciling! It’s working out SO well.

That wallpaper is SO GOOD. I do agree the rug is a little off, it competes with the paper a little.

Thanks! It’s nice to get a second opinion. I might just go with something gray that won’t compete with the walls.

Thank you! I’m not too far from stopping. I’m tackling the floor this week and hanging a barn door and then it’s DONE!

Why not leave it rugless? Or just use a door mat in front of the door. It’s a mud room after all. That wallpaper is a winner. Looking so good.

The mat in front of the door may work. We just have SUCH long wet winters that it’s nice to take your boots off on a rug and not get your feet wet! I also feel like a rug catches a lot of the dirt and sand from getting tracked into the rest of the house!

I love the wallpaper! I also think the rug is the perfect color. I agree that rugless might be the way to go. For the future, we have a somewhat ugly microfiber mud rug, and it works beautifully through our long snowy, muddy, icy winters.

Honestly that’s not a bad idea. I feel like we have SO MUCH winter here that without a rug everyone will have wet socks all the time.
