Hey friends! Can you believe it’s already week three of the One Room Challenge! In week one I shared the before and my mood board. Then in week two I shared the progress with my lighting and faux board and batten. Today I’m here to tell you all about the locker storage cabinets we installed!Storage Lockers for Mudroom

Because our mudroom doesn’t have any closets, these were a great solution that didn’t involve closet construction.Storage Cabinets in MudroomTo help jog your memory, this was the “before” on this wall. We had some shoe shelves that always looked messy and didn’t come close to holding all of our shoes!

I had about a 16″ gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling that I filled with a few plants and art pieces from Target. I know I talked about it last week, but I’m still really crushing on this super modern flush mount light.
Mudroom Cabinet You might have caught a glimpse of the bench, or the window coverings, or noticed I started on my floor painting project too! Those projects will each get their own posts, but yes, the floors have been painted! Now I’m just trying to decide whether or not to stencil them like cement tile! You also might have noticed the buffalo check rug from the last One Room Challenge Reveal! I haven’t decided on a rug yet, so I just tossed that one in here for photos… hopefully I can nail one down shortly!

  • Install new light fixture
  • Install faux board and batten
  • Paint door
  • Install new hinges and door knob
  • Install window coverings
  • Assemble storage wardrobes
  • Paint and Stencil Flooring
  • Replace cream outlets and switches
  • Build barn door and track
  • Hang art above hook wall
  • Wallpaper adult hook wall
  • Install bench under adult hooks

      I mentioned this on Instagram, but they’re not quite deep enough for a hanger. If you don’t need hangers they’d be awesome. But if you want to hang things you might want something a bit deeper!

    They look great! We have similar cabinets in our “mudroom” for coats. And I say paint the tiles! Use a super good primer (Zinnser BIN is the best unless you use oil.) It’s totally worth it.

      Thanks! I painted them black using chalk paint and a really good sealer, but the part I’m torn on is whether or not to stencil them! They were a very ugly pinkish orange color.

    Great cabinets! And I really like that rug in there. Maybe you can save yourself the stress of painting the tiles with the stencil and just find another bold pattern rug!

      Honestly, that’s sort of the route I’m considering! I was really loving the look of cement tiles, but I’m not so keen on the hours of stenciling involved.

      Thanks! I think they’re the perfect pieces for this room! Originally I was going to go with a WAY more generic cabinet and I’m so happy my friend who works for Sauder suggested these!

    The lockers are so perfect there! And I just love the artwork – palms and buffaloes are two of my favourite things. I gotta say, I’m absolutely loving the black floors – I wouldn’t even bother stenciling them if you’re going to cover it with a rug. Plus I love the way the black tiles continue out the door. I can’t wait to see what you do next. xx

      Thanks! The buffalo is a nod to our time spent in North Dakota. Thanks for the input on the tile. As cool as cement tile would look, I am enjoying the simple black and it would save a TON of work.

    Your cabinets are so pretty! Do you actually have two complete units sitting side by side? If so, what did you do to anchor them together?

      Yes it’s two units! Currently nothing is anchoring them together or to the wall, but as I wrap up the details in there over the next two weeks I’ll be anchoring them together and anchoring them to the wall. I’m thinking I’ll just screw them together because they sit really nicely butted up against each other.

    Wow, what a difference painting the floors made. It looks like slate. Shoot I would not paint them or put a rug in there. It is a mud room and you have enough punch with the colors and wallpaper. It looks great!

      Thanks so much! I agree that it totally looks like slate! Sadly we need a rug because otherwise sand gets tracked EVERYWHERE. At least with a rug the sand sticks in the mudroom. I might just got with a grey neutral one so that the walls can shine though. Thanks!
