Recently I shared our plans for the girl room. Today I’m sharing my absolute favorite part of her bedroom, the modern floral wallpaper. We are CRAZY excited, because tomorrow, we head to Haiti to pick up our daughter!
I am seriously SO excited to share today’s post with you! As you know we’ve been working on getting our daughter’s room ready for her. Ever since I first laid my eyes on the Crimson Poppy Mural from A New Wall I knew that it was PERFECT for her wall. Once it arrived I recruited my dad to help us hang the mural.
The entire mural arrived rolled up and all of the pieces were already cut. Our first step was to clean the wall really well. Once the wall was clean, we started by hanging the first section of the mural and making sure that it was straight.
Then we just worked our way down the wall, aligning each piece of the mural and slowly flattening out any air bubbles. It was important for us to get the pieces perfectly aligned with each other and this definitely took some fitnesse. The pieces are actually an adhesive vinyl, so there was no pasting or gluing required. Once it was stuck to the wall it was reposition-able, but not without peeling the entire piece off and starting it over. This was where we were grateful to have a hand from my dad.
I also just have to give a shout-out to this stud. He really doesn’t enjoy DIY projects, but he does them willingly with a smile for me. Well… in this case for our daughter too!
The width of the mural was perfect, and just a few inches wider than our wall.
Getting the mural to align and not have any air bubbles was a three person job.
After hanging the final panel we just used a straight edge with a blade to cut of the excess paper.
From start to finish the mural took the three of us about four hours to hang. I think that we expected it to go a bit faster, but once we were done it looked amazing and was worth the effort.
Sometime during the install my mom got ahold of the camera and that’s the only reason there are ANY pictures of me!
Mostly she was just moral support… and she kept the boys occupied the whole time!
I had to toss these in to show what a family affair this project truly was!
Once it was done it turned out better than I could have expected!
It actually looks more like a hand-painted mural than wallpaper.
The colors and details in this pattern are gorgeous, and it makes me SO excited to finish decorating her room!
Soon I’ll be spending a lot of time hanging out in this chair with our little girl. I sure hope she loves her bedroom wall as much as I do!
I want to thank A New Wall for offering my a discount on the wallpaper in exchange for a honest blog post. All opinions are completely my own.
