Hey there! Today is the first day of the One Room Challenge! It’s a six week challenge where hundreds of bloggers each makover a space in six short weeks. I love the challenge and have participated five times in the past! I’ve made over our bedroom, another bedroom, our reading nook, our mudroom, and our kitchen and dining room! This time around I’m going to be tackling our mudroom, and it’s going to be a HUGE job! Today I’m sharing our modern mudroom plans!
Currently, this is the state of our mudroom:
Yep… it’s a screen porch with green carpet, a patched old window, and some random furniture we’ve thrown out here.
Here is how it looks from the outside. Basically it’s just a corner of our house that is on the house foundation, and covered by the house roof. In the summer it has been serving us well as a “mudroom”, but as it gets colder it’s terrible to keep shoes and coats out here.
Here’s a shot from the other side, with the door into the house, the door to the garage, and a screen door to the outside. When we completed our raised dining room, we ran a HVAC duct to this room, which you can see covered up right under the white door. My plan is to move the white door to become the new garage door, and this will just be a cased opening into the dining room. My plan is to tear down the aluminum screen walls, and replace them with framed, insulated, and drywalled walls. Then I’ll tile the floor, build some storage, and enjoy having a mudroom during Winter in Wisconsin! As you can see I’ve got a LOT to do in six weeks! Now let’s get to our modern mudroom plans!
This is one of my favorite inspiration pics. I love how bright this mudroom is. I also love the bench and hooks versus actual lockers.
Here’s another mudroom I just love. I love the black door, the row of cubbies on the end of the room, and the space under the bench for shoes.
In this inspiration shot I love how they used Ikea Pax wardrobes to add storage. Currently we have two wardrobes in our master bedroom that I’m planning on moving out here instead.
Finally I love the idea of adding wallpaper to the ceiling out here!
After taking all of that into consideration, here is my mood board for the mudroom! It makes me super excited to move forward and gives me an idea of what it may look like… beyond the screen windows and green carpet! Over the next few weeks I will certainly be spending TONS of time out there working on this space! Thank you so much for following along on this challenge!Light Fixture * Flooring * Door * Mirror * Lock Set * Wardrobes * Hooks * Wallpaper * Rug * Art

Aw thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It is a HUGE undertaking! Thanks for following along!
Hi Jess,
Love the ideas for your mudroom. You mentioned using marble for your floor. You may already be aware, but make sure it is not a gloss surface. You don’t want people slipping on it. Something with a rough surface for more traction. is safer. And, I am absolutely thrilled with what you have done with this house, as well as your last home. Enjoy reading your blog. You are pinned to my favorites.
I actually just picked up a matte ceramic tile that is a faux marble. Good call though! I definitely don’t want anything slippery in here. my dream tile actually had a bit of texture to it but was just too expensive. Thank you so much for reading and following along!
Wow, this space is gong to look amazing. Love your mood board. Can’t wait to follow along with your progress.
The ceiling idea is so unique and gorgeous! I love it.
Thank you! I got it up and I’m loving it so far!
