Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates lately. When your house is in total chaos and renovation mode, sometimes it’s hard to stop and take pictures and share the process. Today I took a day off from drywall dust to share our new modern brass pendant lights in the kitchen!
In case you didn’t see my “Before” post, here is what the kitchen lighting situation looked like when we moved in. It had this HUGE hideous fluorescent light box. Eventually we’d love to re-do the entire kitchen, but I knew the light had to go right away.
Taking down that box was not hard at all, but it was heavy! Thankfully Matt and I did it together leaving us with a ceiling that looked like this.
Thankfully I was able to repair the ceiling. I just sanded down all the old paint lines, filled the holes. Then did a layer of drywall mud over the it all which I sanded. It was a messy job but worth it. After two coats of paint you ALMOST can’t tell it was ever there. If you look VERY close you can still tell, but eventually we’re going to remodel the kitchen and I’ll handle that then.
After getting to this point we no longer had a fluorescent light, but the ONLY lighting we had was the under cabinet lights. We’ve got an electrician helping with our bathroom project, so I asked him to drop in three boxes for pendants here. Choosing the lights was a tough decision! I knew I wanted to accent this kitchen with brass, so I immediately hunted for brass lights. Eventually I had to eliminate some of my favorites because I needed lights that would really light the entire kitchen. Here were some of my top choices:

I ended up choosing this brass pendant light which I love. It has a 9″ diameter bowl which I think was the right scale for our kitchen. Along with new pendant lights we also HAD to tear out the kitchen faucet, so we replaced it with this stunning brass kitchen faucet. As you can see I still need to get plugs for the open holes.
You might notice I’ve also got new stools! They are these leather stools. They sell in sets of four so I’ve got one in my basement! I got them as an Amazon Warehouse Deal so I was able to get all four for $200! Even at regular price they’re SO much cheaper than the ones I’ve always loved from West Elm.
Just in case you thought our entire house was looking this good, I took a shot facing the other direction. We’re still rocking the white folding table. We have stacks of unpacked boxes, and an entire room filled with very random stuff in no order at all. This is real life friends. Thanks a ton for stopping by today! I hope this post inspired you! Maybe you have an old fluorescent light that you hate? Or maybe you’re considering brass accents in your home? Or maybe you’re just curious what we’re tackling in this new house? Either way I’m thankful that you’re here!
