Reading Nook with Bed and Bookshelves

Hey friends! Welcome back to week FIVE of the One Room Challenge! For this six week challenge I’m redoing our hallway reading nook. In week 1 I shared the space. In week 2 I shared my mood board. In week 3 I shared how I built the built in daybed and bookshelves. Just yesterday I shared how we moved the light fixture junction box. This week I’ve been busy patching drywall, painting, and hanging this light fixture. Today for week 4 I’m sharing this AMAZING modern light fixture for our reading nook from Lamps Plus.modern light fixture for our reading nook

It’s the Possini Euro Planet Chrome and Black pendant chandelier from Lamps Plus. It has an amazing Mid-Century vibe that fits with the rest of the lighting in our home. Because we installed the junction box we were able to install one that could hold this light. It is a solid twenty pounds and took two people to install. Euro Posinni Light Fixture

Lamps plus has SO many amazing lights that I had a hard time picking my favorite for this space. These three were the other top contenders for this space.

Modern Light Fixture Options

1. Hawking Light      2. Hemingson Light      3. Feiss Light

Now that it’s up I absolutely LOVE it. It’s like having a hanging sculpture, and at night it casts the coolest shadows.Modern Reading Nook

I also added this buffalo check rug because I’m currently obsessed with EVERYTHING buffalo check. (Do you remember my buffalo check round up?!) Sadly it sold out days after I purchased it on a liquidation deal, but here is an affiliate link to a similar one.Built in Daybed

For this entire challenge I haven’t been sure about whether the built-ins should be black or white, but I’ve finally decided that I’m liking the way the white shelves look.
Daybed in Hallway

I love how the black of the light plays off the of the black on the stairs that I recently re-did. This week I also added this gorgeous brass metal art piece above the stairs. Hallway Reading Nook

Although the reading nook is looking closer to being done, don’t be fooled, there is still quite a bit of work left. When you look down towards the master bedroom you can see that our laundry closet still needs both doors.Built Ins in Hallway

We haven’t bought the stackable washer and dryer yet, but eventually that will live on the right side of the closet, and the left side will be the mini-fridge, and storage for the vacuum and laundry supplies.Second Floor Laundry

Along with needing to finish the laundry closet, the entire space also still needs trim. Trim that I still have to stain. I also have to move the electric outlets that will be hidden in the built ins for charging devices. I will definitely have my hands full over the next two weeks!Reading Nook and Laundry It’s crazy to look at this space and remember that not very long ago it looked like this! Yellow walls, dirty carpet, and a poorly positioned linen closet.

I am getting so excited to fill this space with books, pillows, and decor. I’m currently shopping the rest of the house for fun items to add to these shelves.
