Hey friends! Welcome back to week FIVE of the One Room Challenge! For this six week challenge I’m redoing our hallway reading nook. In week 1 I shared the space. In week 2 I shared my mood board. In week 3 I shared how I built the built in daybed and bookshelves. Just yesterday I shared how we moved the light fixture junction box. This week I’ve been busy patching drywall, painting, and hanging this light fixture. Today for week 4 I’m sharing this AMAZING modern light fixture for our reading nook from Lamps Plus.
It’s the Possini Euro Planet Chrome and Black pendant chandelier from Lamps Plus. It has an amazing Mid-Century vibe that fits with the rest of the lighting in our home. Because we installed the junction box we were able to install one that could hold this light. It is a solid twenty pounds and took two people to install.Â
Lamps plus has SO many amazing lights that I had a hard time picking my favorite for this space. These three were the other top contenders for this space.
1. Hawking Light    2. Hemingson Light    3. Feiss Light
Now that it’s up I absolutely LOVE it. It’s like having a hanging sculpture, and at night it casts the coolest shadows.
I also added this buffalo check rug because I’m currently obsessed with EVERYTHING buffalo check. (Do you remember my buffalo check round up?!) Sadly it sold out days after I purchased it on a liquidation deal, but here is an affiliate link to a similar one.
For this entire challenge I haven’t been sure about whether the built-ins should be black or white, but I’ve finally decided that I’m liking the way the white shelves look.
I love how the black of the light plays off the of the black on the stairs that I recently re-did. This week I also added this gorgeous brass metal art piece above the stairs.Â
Although the reading nook is looking closer to being done, don’t be fooled, there is still quite a bit of work left. When you look down towards the master bedroom you can see that our laundry closet still needs both doors.
We haven’t bought the stackable washer and dryer yet, but eventually that will live on the right side of the closet, and the left side will be the mini-fridge, and storage for the vacuum and laundry supplies.
Along with needing to finish the laundry closet, the entire space also still needs trim. Trim that I still have to stain. I also have to move the electric outlets that will be hidden in the built ins for charging devices. I will definitely have my hands full over the next two weeks! It’s crazy to look at this space and remember that not very long ago it looked like this! Yellow walls, dirty carpet, and a poorly positioned linen closet.
I am getting so excited to fill this space with books, pillows, and decor. I’m currently shopping the rest of the house for fun items to add to these shelves.
Thank you so much for following along with our progress! Make sure you check out the updates from all of the other bloggers over at Calling it Home! If you just can’t wait for the reveal, make sure you check out some of my other room reveals!
Lamps Plus sponsored this post by providing me with this beautiful light. All opinions are completely my own. Sponsors like these along with readers like you are what keep this blog running!
Your space is looking amazing already – that light is everything! I’m rather jealous that you were able to move the junction box over – I had the same issue with a weirdly placed light, but we’re renting so I just had to do the swag-it-over thing. Love your built-ins too – it’s going to be a lovely spot when it’s all done. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
Thank you so much. We’ve swagged lights in a few houses for that same reason. I was just glad we could access it from the attic. On our main level we’ve got some poorly positioned lights that are going to be much harder to move. Thanks so much for following along!
The light looks amazing in there!!
Thank you! I was afraid it might be too big, but I love that it makes a statement!
i am absolutely drooling over this! the light is perfection!
Aw thank you so much. I’ll have to get a picture of it at night too!
OMG it looks so good. Great choice on light and rug!
Thank you so much! I’m so happy I was able to snag the rug before it sold out!
That light is absolutely stunning!!!
Thanks! I love having something more unique that your typical hallway flush mount light!
