Hey guys! Today I’m exciting to share a room that hasn’t been shared yet! It’s our modern big boys bedroom!
My little guys are seven and nine, and really they’re not so little anymore! They still love legos and have a bunch of toys in their closet, but they also love to read and play their kindles in their bed. I wanted to create a space that was still playful, but also a little bit more grown up than some of their past bedrooms. I ended up using mostly items that had lived in different rooms in our last house. Even though I didn’t buy any of them for this space I love how it all came together.
The very first thing we did after buying the house was to paint all the walls and ceilings with Benjamin Moore “Chantilly Lace”. I really think it’s the perfect pure bright white. Then I installed this modern light fixture that’s sadly been discontinued. I did find a similar one here.
Then we installed these amazing roman shades from Blindster.com. They’re the “Group C” roman shade in the fabric “Tulum Graphite”. We got them as 90% blackout shades on a continuous loop and I couldn’t be happier with them. They look so clean and modern, but they’re also easy to operate and keep most of the light out when they’re shut.
I took the dresser from our last master bedroom, and added 4″ hairpin legs to it from the Hairpin Leg Co. These gave it the perfect amount of height. The buffalo check rug is from the basement of our last house, but it actually feels perfect in here! Sadly that seems to be discontinued too!
We’ve had these metal beds for a while now and they’re our favorite twin beds ever. They’re really solid and sturdy and feel really high end. The bedding is new and it’s the geometric duvet cover from Tealp paired with grey Target quilts. They are the softest and most cozy duvet covers and I can’t believe how cheap they were!
The nightstands and lamps were also in our last master bedroom. The nightstands are vintage, but West Elm sells similar ones here.
The gallery wall is made up of photos, faux taxidermy, art, an even my favorite lumberjack toy that my grandpa carved! In the corner I’ve got then Chanel Armchair that used to live in our dining room. Eventually It will end up back in the dining room but until then I’m enjoying using it in here! The leather pouf was a super deal on Amazon, although it came unstuffed so I had to find scraps and old pillows to fill it with. This combo is perfect for when I’m reading to the boys at night. Just to keep things honest, I’ll share a shot of their completely overstuffed lego shelves. I built them using my tutorial for the same floating lego shelves from our last house. I wish these were stained and beautifully staged, but this is real life and we have a TON of lego creations.
So there it is! Our Modern Big Boys Bedroom! I think I really accomplished my goal of creating a space that they love, because when they get home from school this is usually straight where they head to flop onto their beds and start reading. I hope this room inspired you that decorating a space can involve mostly just using what you already had! Thanks so much for stopping by today!
