Hey guys! Today I’m here to share a simple DIY hack that can be used on just about ANY piece of furniture. I’m sharing how to add hairpin legs to a dresser.
I picked up this dresser from a garage sale a few years ago and this is how it looked back then:
The first thing I did was to paint the laminate top black, and use Restore-a-Finish on the wood. I shared that process in this blog post. I also painted the front of the frame black since it was also laminate and in pretty rough shape. I’ve always loved how it looked but the dresser has always felt a bit short.
Then I found the 4″ hairpin legs from the Hairpin Leg Co. and I knew they were exactly what this dresser needed. The trouble was that the base was too small to mount the legs onto. This was an easy fix as I just cut down some 1″x4″ boards and mounted them to the hidden inside on the bottom of the dresser. As you can see I only used three out of the four screws but these are still SUPER sturdy. If it wasn’t I would have mounted wood to the front and back as well to create additional places to screw into.
Once I had these supports in place it was super simple to just screw the legs onto the bottom. The hardest part was probably just taking all the drawers out of the dresser in order to be able to flip it over!
I failed to realize how DUSTY the floor was under here until I was editing the photos so please bare with me!!! I just wanted to share a close up so that you could see the little pieces that snap onto the bottom of the legs to protect the floors.
I’m so much happier with this dresser now. Not only are the hairpin legs stylish but it also raises the dresser to a more typical height. This is a perfect solution for dressers with wobbly legs, or for furniture items without legs.
In case you missed it, this dresser is in my boys bedroom which I revealed earlier this week! I hope that I inspired you to breathe some new life into an old piece of furniture. Sometimes it’s really as simple as just adding a few legs to it!
**The Hairpin Leg Co. provided these legs to me in exchange for this blog post. It did not influence my opinion and I’m happy to support brands that I love by sharing them with you!**
