Thank you so much to you all for your comments and suggestions on what type of style we should go with on our addition, and what color windows we should do. After my last blog post I continued to agonize and decided to attempt a horrible photoshopped version of what each style would look like. (Don’t judge my poor photoshop skills).
Here is the Craftsman version with the porch peak, garage peak, and craftsman style windows:
Here is the modern ranch version, with the extended roofline, modern windows, and no peaks:
I feel like my photoshopped version doesn’t do this style justice, so I covertly snapped a pic of my inspiration just down the street from us, isn’t it pretty??
But… the general consensus among almost everyone that responded is to go with a craftsman style and white windows for these reasons:
-Smaller Window Investment (white vs. black)
-Potential for not having to replace current white soffits and fascia
-The peaks will give the house more presence
-Opportunity to bump the garage forward and add a mudroom in back.
So… I believe we will be attempting a craftsman remodel, and going with white craftsman windows. I do have to say a little part of me is disappointed because I love black windows so much, and because you all know how much I love “vintage”. Something about a ranch just touches that vintage part of my heart.
But, I am going to embrace the craftsman look, here are a few of our craftsman inspiration pics:
On this one I love the cedar garage door:
On this one I also love the cedar garage door, the forward peak of the garage, the awning over the garage door, the two beam pillars, and the idea of room for a man door on the side of the garage.
Again I’m loving the pillars with two beams and I love the supports on the front door peak.
This one has a shallow roof like ours, while still getting two beautiful peaks with the cedar beams. Don’t they tie in pretty with the cedar garage door and front door?
As for color schemes if I have to settle for white windows, I’ll happily add in the dark colors I love in the siding color and brick. I know I just told you how beautiful I thought the cedar was, but aren’t these white beams and white garage doors beautiful with the cedar door and dark siding?
Or this house and it’s all white trim and windows with a pretty dark grey?
Then there’s this guy with the white windows, dark trim and cedar garage doors.
Thankfully I don’t have to make all those decisions now, I only have to pick windows. With all these inspiration pictures I think I can now confidently pick out some beautiful Craftsman White windows.
So basically what I’m saying is thank you. Thank you for helping me narrow down a style, and keep my sanity!
