Now that we’ve got our new flooring in I finally feel like our house is turning into what I’ve always envisioned it to be! Right before we started installing flooring I finished the last of the cabinet painting by painting the island. It completed my vision of a beautiful two tone tuxedo kitchen!
I painted the Island Sherwin Williams “Domino” in semi-gloss. It really changes its color based on the lighting throughout the day. Sometimes it looks deep black, other times charcoal, and other times more of a deep navy. I LOVE paint colors that look different throughout the day. In case you’re new, this is the kitchen before we opened up the wall and painted the cabinets… quite the transformation!!
Here you can see how the paint definitely looked navy:
and then here it looked very black:
Even though it’s rarely organized I really love my little bookshelf on the end of the cabinet.
Someday the fridge will get replaced with a stainless one, and then there won’t be such competition between the color of the island and the fridge. Until then though I’m still REALLY in love with the way my tuxedo kitchen is turning out!
So that you could get an idea of my inspiration for the two tone tuxedo kitchen I wanted to share with you some other beautiful two tone kitchens that inspired me!

It looks awesome!
Thank you so much!
What a transformation! Love, love, love it!
Thank you! Even though two-tone is a trend, I don’t think I’ll be getting over it anytime soon!
I’m thinking it’s not a trend, but will be around longer than people think 🙂 Mine started out that I had to replace our lower cabinets, but the uppers still seemed fine. So I bought unfinished Cherry cabinets from Conestoga Wood, and stained them a warm Walnut. I painted my upper cabinets Antique White. What a difference already. The room is so much brighter than having medium to dark wood tones on the wall cabinets that seemed to make it seem smaller, especially at night. I started the project in 2013, and now seeing more websites featuring the style 🙂
You’re a trend setter! I LOVE the look of wood and white cabinets together. I actually rounded up a bunch on modern wood kitchens and many of them had white uppers. Here is the link: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/modern-kitchens-with-unpainted-cabinets/. Your kitchen sounds beautiful!
