If you follow me on Instagram you might remember about a month ago when I asked for your help in picking a new couch.
There were definitely some strong opinions towards each couch and I had a terrible time choosing between the two beauties. Well, I picked one, it’s here, and I am completely obsessed with it.
I chose the…. drumroll please…..
Worthington Oxford Brown Sofa, also known as the best Mid Century Couch ever.
Even though I also LOVED the Sven Charme Tan Sofa, the final deciding factor was that I was afraid that camel leather might just blend in a little too much with our similar colored flooring. Instead the Worthington pulls the dark tones from the floor and contrasts perfectly.
This is the first ever piece of real leather furniture we’ve owned and I will never turn back! Yes, it costs more than bonded leather but is worth every penny. Rather than scratching and dulling over time, instead the real leather will wear and patina, giving it even more charm and character with age. I also can’t get over how much I love the smell of the real leather.
The legs on this couch are solid wood in the beautiful Mid Century shape that I love so much.Â
Even though I LOVE vintage furniture, vintage sofas are a little scary. You never know where they’ve been, or what’s been on them. It’s also rare to find a beautiful mid century shaped sofa with upholstery that is modern enough to fit into today’s decor. Bryght has so many vintage inspired sofas that you can get all the charm you love of a vintage Mid Century couch without the fear of it’s history!
I could go on and on sharing everything that I love about this couch, but the pictures basically say the same thing! I love that this couch is plush and comfortable without being overstuffed and bulky.
If you are considering purchasing any new furniture I would absolutely recommend Article.com. Not only do they have beautiful couches, but also chairs, tables, and accessories.Â
It also states on each item exactly how far out it is shipping, which was nice to know when making a decision… rather than after hitting purchase! This couch was dispatching in 5-6 weeks and it happily surprised me when it arrived exactly a month after I ordered it.Â
So what do you think, did I make the right decision?! Honestly I don’t think I really could have gone wrong, but I am SO happy with this purchase!
*After posing the Instagram question about which couch to purchase I contacted Article about a discount. They offered me a discount in exchange for an honest blog post about my purchase. Either way I wanted to purchase the couch, but this sweetened the deal even more! It also makes it easy to blog about a product when I love it so much!*
Hi Jess,
I’m looking at this couch for our new home for our great room. It needs to do double duty as it will get a lot of use (TV is in that room). It will need to hold up nicely for entertaining in that room as well. Would love your feedback.
Thanks!
I LOVE our couch still! We just moved it cross country and the wood part got one small ding, but that was from not having it protected at all. I rotate the back cushions occasionally, just so that they all get the same amount of ware. I love that it’s really cozy, while not being super overstuffed. It’s good for a room like yours that serves double-duty… just like ours. I hope my review helps! If you get it I think you’ll love it!
Thank you! Very helpful!
Love your (old) living room! I’m actually considering the other couch, the Sven since I have dark floors. In one of your other blog posts, I saw that you paired the Bryght couch with what looks like a Poang chair from Ikea, which was also what I was hoping to do. Do you like the two together? I’m concerned about the height of the Poang as compared with the lower height of the couch. I was planning two Poang chairs across the room from my couch, so they wouldn’t be right next it. Also, may I ask where you purchased the two white chairs? Are they leather? That type of chair was my alternative to the Ikea chairs. However, I have cats, so no fabric upholstery for me!
I think the Sven is gorgeous and would look amazing, especially with dark floors. I do actually love the way the sofa works with the Paong. The heights are actually fairly similar. The White chairs are the Kimlyn Rio Chairs Here is my affiliate link to them: http://amzn.to/1RmVeYr. Sadly I think the color I purchased “sand” is out of stock. Sadly though they are upholstery. The best leather chair I’ve found in a light color is this one: http://amzn.to/1RmVYg4 *affilliate link*. I think it’s gorgeous and the perfect mid century inspired piece.
Hello,
I am considering the same couch, and just have a couple of questions I am hoping you can help me with….
I am 5-11, of avg male height. Will it be long enough to fully extend for napping on?
Does it feel wide enough, I noticed in the measurements section it only totals 35 inches wide…?
Thanks, and it looks great!
Thanks. I’m 5’9 and I can extend on the couch. It would be close for you. It feels really wide, my dad actually thinks it’s slightly deeper than he prefers. We think it’s perfect.
Hi, just found your review after considering buying this couch, and it is very informative. I have a question- is this couch heavy? I guess for me heaviness is associated with sturdiness, lol. Also, is the wood the hard wood type? You said you made a ding on the wooden leg. Is it deep or just like a surface one? Sorry, I am so paranoid to spend that much money online without seeing it in person! Thanks in advance for your answer!
Yes it is fairly heavy. Yes it is a hardwood, it is just a surface ding, I think with a stain pen I could easily hide it. Thanks for commenting and I hope his helps with your decision! I would definitely purchase it again.
Thanks for your review! I purchased this sofa just a minute ago solely on your review! Although, in your pictures the sofa color looks sorta lighter and gray compared to the photos on the Bryght website – but I image it is your lighting and camera?
How is it holding up? One thing I am afraid of are the cushions losing their form and becoming wrinkly and flat. What do you think?
We still really love the sofa. I see what you mean about it looking lighter and gray, I think that’s just because I had so much light in those pictures. It’s pretty true to how it looks on their website. It is holding up really well. After two moves we just tightened up the legs a bit, but they only needed about a 1/4 twist each. The cushions are inter-changeable, so if one gets more use, you can rotate them. I would say they’re not *quite* as fluffy as the day we got the couch, but pretty close. I’ve still been really happy with it! I hope you love it as much as we do!
Are the cushion backs leather too?
Yes they are leather.
Hi! I was directed to your blog after googling this couch. Thanks for reviewing!
I’m in love with the look, shape, everything but I’m a little hesitant to pull the trigger on something so expensive without seeing it in person.
I’m mostly concerned with the comfort level… I really want a beautiful and clean-lined sofa that I can actually kick back and sink into. Not getting sucked into it like your parents basement furniture, persay, but something me and my 70lb dog can cuddle up on super comfortably. I am between this and the Sven as well (was really loving that chaise option on the Sven…) but this one seems like it might have a little more “give” to the cushions. It’s so hard to tell from pictures!
Thanks in advance for your response!
We think it’s super comfortable. Obviously not quite like a fluffy recliner with a headrest, but comfortable. We use a coffee table as an ottoman, and with the ottoman we will sit together through entire movies. I still really love the look of the Sven too, but I agree that this might be slightly cozier. Good luck on your decision and thanks for your comment!
I have the *exact* same dilemma you had… I prefer the design of the Sven but the dark brown leather of the Worthington. So, I emailed them to get samples of the leather to make sure. They send them out free (awesome!) and it confirmed that I don’t want the tan.
But here’s where they threw me for a loop. When I suggested they should make the Sven in dark brown, they said they could do it for me as a custom job. No extra cost! BUT – it would take 3-5 months for delivery and it would be a final sale.
Since a long wait isn’t a problem for me, I’m now struggling! Would the Sven look as good in dark brown? Is there a good reason they don’t sell it in dark brown? Should I just go for the Worthington? Maybe I’ll try photoshopping… Argh!!!
Oooohh… the Sven in dark brown! That’s a dream! So cool that they’d be willing to do that for you! I think it would be worth the 3-5 month wait. I love their quality so I wouldn’t be worried about the final sale part of the deal. I think the Sven would be beautiful in dark brown. I really love the Sven in the tan, but you’ve got to have the right color floors to make that work. I say go for it, and then share pictures! Otherwise if you want something sooner we’re still really happy with the Worthington.
Yup – my floors are 1960’s red oak in a natural finish so they’re lighter than yours. If they were dark I think I’d do the tan.
Not quite ready to pull the pin on this yet but I promise I’ll send pics when I do!
I’m looking at these sofas, too. However, the test of time is really needed with how they how up to everyday use. A few months is not enough. Where are these sofas made? What are the specs? Not many reviews online. It seems that the appearance is more of a concern rather than overall quality. I won’t want Ikea quality.
I agree that the test of time is a far better standard. Bryght is pretty good at answering questions through comments on their social media, I’m sure if you had some specific ones they’d be sure to answer. We’ve had our sofa now for over a year and in three different houses. We use it daily, my young kids play on it, and it has been through many Netflix binges. I also frequently work from the couch. It still looks very close to the day that we got it. The back cushions may be *slightly* slouchier, but it still looks really nice. Possibly just slightly more “worn in”. It is FAR better than Ikea quality. I can’t say enough good things about it and recommend it frequently.
Hey Jezz,
Thank you for replying to Iris’ question. I also wanted to know how durable these sofas are. More than one year without much damages is a good boost to have one of them in my living room. In fact, I am looking for a comfortable sofa for me and my boyfriend.
Can you tell me how comfortable Worthington Oxford Brown Sofa is? I am looking forward to buy this one.
I’d say they are pretty durable. Ours is used daily for hours. Has been moved three times. Is hit frequently with the vacuum. and it wstill looks great. I think it’s super comfortable. Obviously it’s not super plush, but still has a good amount of cushion. We love it.
I’m SO glad I found your blog and this post! I’ve been trying to decide on which one of the 2 to purchase for about 2 months now – I had my old couch then so I definitely had the time to think. Now that my old sofa is gone, I desperately want/ need a new one. I was wondering whether the color of this couch is more chocolate brown or brown/ black? Also, is the color consistent or does it sort of vary a little?
Thank you for sharing!

I’d say it is a deep chocolate. Not quite dark enough to ever look black, but nice and dark. I love this couch so much and I would definitely recommend it.
Hello! I just stumbled across your review and I really like your coffee table. Where is it from?
Thank you so much. It’s actually vintage from a garage sale. I have seen a similar new version at Ikea though in the “Stockholm” collection. Thanks!
I purchased the Charme Leather Sectional from Article. It’s a beautiful piece, but within a couple months one of the cushions faded horribly. I contacted customer service requesting a replacement cushion and was told “It is a natural material designed to develop a patina”. I am so disappointed! I encourage anyone considering Article.com to reconsider. I’d have been a raving customer if only they’d sent a replacement cushion. A shame.
I’m so sorry to hear that. That’s the first negative review of Article that I’ve heard and I’ve heard quite a few. If the rest of the sectional patinas it wouldn’t be terrible, but if only one cushion stays faded thats such a bummer. We’ve had our couch two years and three moves and we still completely love everything about it. I’m sorry your experience was a bad one. Too bad they weren’t willing to replace it.
Stumbled upon your blog and I think you’re one of the few I’ve seen that has posted a few updates on your experience post purchase, even a couple years later. Good to hear that the quality has held up as I had been on the fence in regards to the Sven! Cheers!
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I really LOVE the Worthington sofa and would buy it again in a heartbeat. I’ve also got Article’s Chanel dining chair and they are working out great for us.
Awesome to hear. I was beginning to get a little bit frustrated in my search for reviews from people that have owned for a while versus those that have not. It seemed that all I could find were reviews from people that had only had the furniture for a short time.
I’m sure that most consumer items look good two weeks in, but if I’m going to spend 2k on a couch, I need to ensure that it is going to look good a few years down the road, at the very least, so I’m quite glad I found this post!
There are always a few negative comments about any company out there, and the relative lack of negativity, for Article helps a lot, but this definitely strengthens my decision to eventually buy from them. Thanks again!
Nice write-up. Do you know the dimension from the floor to the back without the cushions on? On the article web site it states 32″, but it appears that the cushions extends above.
I’ll measure in a few hours and let you know.
I love this couch so much I bought a second one and I now have them facing each other in front of the fireplace. I have four little kids and it has worn beautifully over the last 10 months. I have moved three times and it looked awesome in each house. The style is incredibly flexible. I also love that my robot vacuum can fit under it.
Thank you for posting. You helped me decide to make the initial purchase.
Aw this is so encouraging to read! I still really love mine too! It has held up to our three littles well. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know the impact of my post!
More questions about this couch again 🙂 Have you ever spilled water or liquids on the couch and were they easy to clean up? We have the sven and it seems water absorbs right into the leather so we had an issue with some water spots.
I think I’m going to write a post about this. My good friend bought the Sven and had the same issue within months of purchasing it. She purchased a product online that REALLY helped with getting the spots out. I just text her to get the details on it and I’ll let you know what the product was. We haven’t had any major spills, but definitely don’t baby the sofa and it still looks amazing.
So, it has been almost a year and a half since you bought this sofa.
How do you feel about it now?
I just moved into a new place and am considering purchasing some new furniture. I saw your post and thought this would look nice in my living room.
Would you still recommend it after all of this time?
We still love it. Actually I’m sitting on it now! We’ve moved it a few times and sit on it every night and it still looks great. Thanks for stopping by!
I’m writing this from my Worthington which arrived just under a week ago. I agree with everything in your review, and I love the hell outta this thing. But I just wanted to add that if you have dogs, expect the leather to show off every single scratch your pets leave behind. Fortunately the leather is a textured vintage feel, so it kind of blends in anyway, but it’s something people might want to consider.
It’s a stunner though and fits perfectly in with my mixed-period furniture (I’m kind of going for a Scandinavian-American MCM thing right now), and it is built incredibly well. You can just feel how solid it is when you sit down. Apparently it’s made in the same factory, and by the same manufacturers, that build Knoll and Anthropologie furniture (can’t find the link where I heard that), so it really is of exceptional quality.
Thanks for posting this!
Wow! Thanks for letting me know! I didn’t know about the Knoll or the Anthropologie factory thing, that’s really cool actually. That’s a bummer about the pet scratches, we don’t have any pets. I’m glad that it blended in and added to the vintage look!
I am in love love love with the Sven and the tan leather pieces in general, but worried about water spots, etc. I have two young kids, a dog, a husband . . . Wondering if anyone has opinions as to whether the issue is the patina, or the lighter color of the leather vs the darker color you have.
I definitely think that you have to be more careful with the lighter color. Check out this post on my friend’s house who has the Sven sofa: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/heathers-modern-home-tour/
I’ve been mulling over the Worthington for a few weeks. I have the dubious pleasure of replacing ALL the furniture in my livingroom due to an insurance claim. I truly want this sofa and matching chair, but I struggle with making the decision as I’m not big on purchasing without actual contact. I’ll ask the same question others have in the past: is it still holding up? As for the back cushions, I realize they can be rearranged, can they be flipped top to bottom and front to back as well? Also, can they ‘opened’. Thanks kindly for the help. Truly.
SO sorry that you have to replace all of your furniture! I love this sofa. It is so hard to ask online. It is holding up great. After about two years the back cushions haven’t held their shape completely. They still look great though. If you check out my Fall Home Tour post you’ll see how it looks today. The back cushions can be rearranged, but cannot be flipped. They do have a zipper and you can flip the cushion inside of the leather. Hopefully that helps! I’d definitely purchase this sofa again!
Sold. I saw the couch in the home tour post. That’s exactly how I want a couch to age. Thank you very much!
