Hey Friends! Last week I shared our before shots and all the information about how we raised up the floor of our sunken den. This week I’m sharing our Scandinavian modern kitchen and dining room plans.

In case you’re new, I’m making over our kitchen and dining room as a guest participant in the One Room Challenge. This is the current state of the kitchen and dining room:

Here’s some inspiration shots for what I’d like to achieve in here:

I’m going to paint the windows and trim black… not like the way I did it with electrical tape in my master bedroom, but really paint them black.

I’d like to build a board and batten wall like this one along the long wall in the dining room. Maybe with white on the bottom and black on top?

I’m in the process of painting the kitchen cabinets black and adding brass hardware.

I need to figure out some type of storage solution for the end of the dining room. I’m thinking maybe a fauxdenza like this one.

    Love it!! If you are going to do a fauxdenza, I personally think they look so much better when they are floating–and they’ll give more of a mid century modern feel. I think that Chris & Julia have done it, as have Dans le Lakehouse. Good luck!!

    LOVE love love! you totally need to check out my friend angelique hoffman on instagram- her home is more white with black accents and yours is more black, but i see a lot of commonalities and you would love her dining room!!!! i can’t wait to see this, jess!

    What color of black did you settle on? I am planning to paint my cabinets black in the near future, but I am wanting to avoid anything with a blue undertone. I want a deep, rich, true black. Love the design ideas and can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

      I ended up getting the dark base with 12 ounces of black colorant. It’s legitimately a TRUE black with absolutely no blue tones. This week I’ll be sharing an entire post about painting our cabinets and I’ll be sure to share a picture of the paint label. Thanks so much!
