Now that you’ve see our littlie living room facelift, it’s time for some dining room facelift pictures. Well… actually it’s more of a facelift in progress, because it’s not pretty yet.
Flashback: when we bought the house this was the dining room nook. Floral wallpaper, shredding curtains, wood light fixture, stick on vinyl trim.
Then we got our table that I love.
Then I painted, made a new light fixture, and hung new curtains. Total transformation. But underneath it all was this HORRIBLE carpet. Carpet that I spilled a gallon of primer on. Carpet that had crusted noodles dried to it. Carpet that two toddlers ate on three times a day. YUK.
So last week when Jackson spilled his millionth glass of milk on the carpet I didn’t even clean it up! I told Matt, “Just leave it, the carpet’s coming out TONIGHT”! He just shook his head and listened. So that night when those three were all sleeping (because Matt’s been getting up for work at 1:30 AM) I got busy tearing up carpet. I was happily surprised to find old linoleum under the carpet. If I would have known that was there I would have torn the carpet out the day we moved in.
I also tore the awful vinyl stick on trim off.
It was SO dirty under the carpet pad. YUK.
Of course the tack strips had a TON of nails and there were so many staples to pull.
By 1:30AM as Matt was waking up the floors looked pretty decent. Like I said, it’s a “facelift in progress”. We’ve still got to get the carpet thresholds tacked down, lay new flooring, sand and paint the base of the walls, and install new trim.
We still had this beautiful late 80’s pattern linoleum in the kitchen, and my dad is here visiting and decided to make it right by tearing that all out too! He had to scrape it all up, and finished the job with bleeding knuckles. Thanks dad!
The linoleum glue is still there, and we’re rocking the 60’s pebble print linoleum, but I’m happy to have an entire kitchen floor that we can sweep and wipe spilled milk off of!
