So when I decided to do a little accent painting in our girl room I knew I would be using it again. Check out the terrible texture on these walls. It’s a mix of old swirl texture with my attempt at orange peel over it. Whatever you call it it’s thick and ugly.
This room has a really neutral paint color which meant I wanted to do something fun on the walls to give them character. I don’t really like hanging much above beds though, because I fear things falling on the kids while they’re sleeping.
This meant that painting a fun girly faux headboard right on to the wallwas the perfect solution. First I sketched it out with a pencil.
Then I took the FrogTape® Textured Surface tape and put it right on top of my sketched line.
Next I took my utility knife and cut the tape away just on top of the line that I could see through the tape. The tape was super simple to cut away. After this I used the Liquid Paint Block® Edge Sealer to seal the tape against the very textured surface.
Then I used a can of navy blue paint I had around to paint the “headboard”.
Within about 15 minutes it was dry enough for me to pull the tape off. As I pulled it off I held my breath, because I knew how bad the texture was and I was afraid there would be bleed through. But Nope! FrogTape® Textured Surface for the win again! Seriously, no bleed through, no touch ups! This stuff really is amazing!
Then came the really fun part. My good friend brought over a couple of white paint pens and we had so much fun just sketching on top of the blue background.
I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with how it turned out. I love the little hearts, the vines, and whimsicalness of it. Everything about it is perfect. I love that it turned a traditional boy color (navy blue) and made it very girly.
Even Mase thought it was so perfect that he wanted to snuggle right in. I can see all of us sitting against the painted headboard and reading books together at night.
This tape seriously opens up a new world of endless possibilities! So what are you inspired to go paint? A faux headboard of your own? Stripes on a heavily textured wall? I want to hear about it!
