How to Gold Stripe Your House
OK, maybe not your WHOLE house, but what house couldn’t benefit from a few gold stripes around a cutout or opening?? Ever since seeing these pictures from when Young House Love “house crashed” this awesome townhouse, I have REALLY wanted to find a place like that to paint stripes.
I had this PERFECT opening between our living room and kitchen that was just BEGGING for gold stripes.
But… it’s got some serious texture, and I was afraid that there was no way I would be able to paint crisp lines over the thick bumps on the walls.

Then I discovered FrogTape Textured Surface. GAME CHANGER. Seriously. This stuff is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
It was really simple to use too. I just taped off 6″ stripes around the opening and lightly marking a “G” with a pencil where I would be painting gold. If you do stripes don’t forget to account for the width of the tape, in this case the tape was just always on the cream part of the wall.
Then I used the the “Liquid Paint Block” that comes with the FrogTape® Textured Surfaces and brushed along the tape to seal it on the sides where I would be painting the gold paint. Then I let it dry for 10 minutes.
Then I just rolled on the gold paint. I used this paint which worked wonderfully.
Then I fell in love with FrogTape® Textured Surfaces when this happened:
Perfection. Seriously. PERFECT straight crisp lines. I did not know this was possible on a surface with that thick of texture! I didn’t have to touch up at ALL! The possibilities are endless… stucco, knockdown, orange peel!
I also LOVE how it plays off the gold on my “put on love” sign.
I love it so much I just might even gold stripe around the doorway to the basement! Thresholds are my new palatte… do you have a textured surface that’s begging for some paint?
Love it! What is the name of the gold paint you used?
It’s American Accents Gold Metallic. Here is the link on Amazon but I bought mine at Ace Hardware! Thanks for asking, I’ll add that into the post!

This is gorgeous!!
Thanks so much, I was joking last night that I have this desire to run my hand along the gold paint every time I walk through it!
