It’s furniture week around here… I’ve had about 5 projects in progress and I’ve got about 5 more on the docket. I need to start packing for our move soon, so I feel like this is my last chance to just focus on redoing furniture for a bit! This Mid-Century Nightstand Re-Do is my first to share.
A few weeks ago I picked up this adorable little mid-century nightstand at a garage sale for $10!! It is really solid, but as you can see it had water stains, and the front legs were moldy and water stained. I was afraid I’d have to remove the water stained legs, and they were my favorite part!
After using a stain stripper that made a big mess I ended up using my palm sander to sand down the entire thing. Next time I think I’ll just skip the stripper and sand so I don’t have the gunky mess to deal with. Then I cleaned it really well and applied my favorite stain (Varathane Dark Walnut Gel Stain). It’s the only stain I own and I have used it on everything.
I love the way that it turned out and I think it is just perfect with the gold dipped lamp and popcorn tin lampshade on it!
This is the master bedroom picture I took before I refinished it:
and here is the after: new finish, new lamp. I think it fits in with the headboard and put on love sign much better. I also like how it doesn’t have such a yellowed glow to it anymore.
