How to Make a Shutter into a Coat Rack
When you walk into our house from the garage there is no closet, only the stairway to the basement and door to the kitchen. This means that rather than walking through the kitchen to the closet to hang up their coats my boys like to drop their coats and hats wherever they fall.
With school starting (in 1 week!) I knew we needed a better solution.
I had these shutters laying around from our dining nook face lift.
I also had these less than stellar coat hook plaque that I picked up at a garage sale for $2 from a cute old man who made hundreds of them. He was so proud.
So I got out my trusty Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and hit the hooks.
Then I got out my favorite Rustoleum 2x Satin Eden spray paint and hit the shutter.
Then I unscrewed the hooks from the wood plaque and put them on the shutter.
And let Jack hang up his school stuff!
The boys are so enthused with their new “child height” hooks that they are actually using them! And I’m not picking up coats and sweatshirts off the floor every time we come in the house. Mission accomplished!
