Our modern porch light update has our front porch looking WAY more modern.
This is a post that should have been written a VERY long time ago! I updated our front porch lights before I even replaced our front door and I’m just FINALLY blogging about the new lights.
Back when we moved in we had this dated old lantern lights. They felt too small, were very dim, and didn’t do anything for this awesome front porch. I replaced them with these Canarm Arlington Outdoor Lights. You might remember that these were the exact same lights I put on our last TWO houses!! It’s complicated but due to broken glass and shipping errors I had extra lights and I finally used them all up! Here is the post about them on the Auction house and Here on the Retro Ranch. Funny story… the house number “871” was exactly the same on two of our homes! They were two blocks apart and positioned in the exact same spot on the block! I also installed the Larson “screen away” door on both houses… just like this one!If I wouldn’t have already had these lights on hand, I may have considered going with something different. Below are a few that I would have considered. One thing to keep in mind is that the cheapest lights usually only have one light, I only considered modern porch lights with 2-4 lights.
Here’s a look at our current door, before and after. The all black storm door, front door, and sidelights is so much more dramatic than the old brown and white combination was! Now the lights feel like they fit the home as well.
Our sweet kitty wouldn’t move while I was taking photos so he got to stay for this one! For under $200, updating porch lights is a super simple fix that anyone can do! I hope this post inspired you to tackle your exterior lights if you’re not happy with them!
