One of my favorite current design trends is all the gold that is popping up everywhere. I love how it can be so classic and so modern at the same time! Recently I discovered something I love even more than gold… Gold Dipping! This white table and navy dresser are my two favorite gold dipped projects!
Today I want to share with you, “How to Gold Dip Anything”! Yep, gold dipping is not just for furniture, it can modernize just about anything! Here’s a little secret about gold dipping… there’s actually no “dipping” involved! It should be called, “How to tape off anything and spray paint it gold”. That’s just not as fun though, and I like to imagine that I’ve got a big pot of gold paint that I randomly dip things into. But really… that would just be a big drippy mess. So here’s how I gold dip anything:
Start off with your favorite gold spray paint. I wrote an entire post about which is the best.
Find something you want to “dip”. I picked up these vases for 10 cents a piece at a garage sale, but I can imagine a million different things that would look great dipped in gold!
Get a couple plastic bags to cover the part that will not be “dipped” and some painter’s tape. Then tape off wherever you want the dip line to be. Make sure you press down hard so you have a crisp line.
Get out your favorite gold spray paint and spray multiple light even coats. I used about 3 coats on these.
Wait for your paint to dry, then peel off your tape. While I had the paint out I also sprayed a few sticks from the backyard that make some fun fillers!
I couldn’t stop at just the vases, and decided to refinish and dip this thrift store lamp too!
I love how the gold dipped lamp plays off the “put on love” sign in my master bedroom!
So if you haven’t jumped on the “Gold Dipping” bandwagon yet, now you know how! What are you going to dip?
