Kitchen Flooring Updates

January 21, 2013 By BrightGreenDoor

Remember when we moved in and we had carpet in the dining room and old school linoleum in the kitchen? Today I’m excited to share these kitchen flooring updates!

Then I tore the carpet out of the dining room leaving half super old-
school pebble print linoleum and half old-school linoleum.
Then I knocked down the wall leaving a gap in the flooring.
This weekend we decided to get serious about having one uniform floor between the two rooms. My dad tore up a bunch of the old linoleum when he installed our “new” dishwasher, but Matt had to pry up all of the parts that were glued down.
So then we had our “uniform floor”, but it had glue remains and a gap that was filled in with a L-shaped piece of wood.
Just ignore the trim, which is the glue backing left behind by the old 4″ vinyl trim. Let me warn you, do not EVER put vinyl trim in a house, it is a nightmare to get rid of.
So late Saturday night while everyone was sleeping (my prime time), I got busy priming and laying some new peel and stick tile!
I got the whole dining room laid, and then Sunday Matt took care of prep in the kitchen so I could get the floor laid in there.
By late Sunday night I had the whole floor laid and I think it looks awesome! I also put my new drywall skills to good use and sanded and patched the base of the walls to repair the vinyl trim damage. Just one more coat of mud and I will be ready to paint and have Matt hang trim.
Don’t the new floors look awesome? Originally I really wanted wood floors that would run from the living room to the kitchen, but that came with a price tag of almost $2,000. We got the tile on a Black Friday deal at Menards and we were able to tile the entire room for under $100!
Kitchen Flooring Updates
I am SO happy to have the new tile. Now that we FINALLY have the same flooring in the kitchen and dining nook they both feel bigger! I can’t believe it took me this long to get serious and get it done!

What did you prime with this project? What were the specifics of the tiles. Type, color, etc.

It was so long ago that I’m having a hard time remembering! We bought it from Menards on Black Friday for $.99 sq/ft I remember rolling on the primer that I also bought from Menards. I couldn’t find this exact tile anymore on their website.
