Every year our family has an annual tradition of getting hot cocoa and driving around to see all the best Christmas lights. Our local electric company hosts a light contest and this year we made it our mission to see all the winners. One of our favorites was just up the street the from our house. How adorable is this Grinch pulling down the icicle lights?!
As much as I loved driving around and checking out all the blow-ups, multi-colored lights, and santa scenes, I also discovered a bunch of gorgeous historic houses. Most of these houses weren’t on the tour of winners, but I just love seeing these beautiful houses covered with greenery, white lights, and a fresh blanket of snow.
I just love the way that these homeowners hung their wreaths from the red ribbons. I also love their metal roof, pergola, and window boxes. Stunning isn’t it?!
This house is absolutely stunning, and only decorated their front entry, but doesn’t it look great?
I feel like this bright red house was just made for Christmas. I’m also loving their snowflake icicle lights.
This house kept it simple when it comes to lights, but that red roof, shutters, and evergreens makes it look festive enough!
I’ve been loving all things green lately, and this house is no different.
This is another stunning red house with simple Christmas lights that still looks amazing.
How amazing is this big white house? Don’t you just wonder what’s up there behind that attic window? So classy!
This house sits on a hill overlooking Lake Superior and I can only imagine waking up to views like that daily. The garland wrapped pillars and lit up vestibule couldn’t be more perfect.
OK, so this house didn’t decorate for Christmas, but I just had to share it with you. It also overlooks the lake. I can’t drive past this one without slowing WAAAAYYY down to try and get a peek inside.
On this next one, do you notice how the Christmas garlands mimic the painted ones on the second story windows?
This next one is small and simple, but still beautiful. I’ve got a thing for dark painted houses and this one is perfect. That fretwork railing is also just SO good.
This next one is also small and simple, but clearly I’ve got a thing for red houses at Christmastime! The white lights and Christmas wreath add the perfect touch of charm.
I saved the best house for last, and had to share pictures of it from two angles. Isn’t this one a stunner? Candles in every window, wreaths in all the right places. How about those dormers? What I would give to walk through the inside of this house!
Here’s the same house from the front. I’m imagining the perfect little window seats in each of those dormers. Thanks so much for stopping by today and checking out a Christmas light tour through our town.
i love this- what a gorgeous area you live in with such pretty and unique homes!
Aw thanks Cassie! We really feel pretty lucky to get to live here, there are TONS of amazing homes. Merry Christmas!
Those houses are all so lovely … but the SNOW! The snow is incredible! You probably take it for granted, but I’m from Australia (I haven’t ever seen snow in real life) and these photos are amazing. It’s like a different world. Thankyou so much for sharing!
I can’t even imagine life without snow! It’s such a huge part of our life here! Planning for road conditions, outdoor clothing, etc. Thank you so much for your kind comments, I love that this post brought so much joy!
I LOVE this Jess!!! Great photos!
Thanks! I felt a little stalker-ish, but it was worth it!
