Mudroom Update- It’s ALMOST DONE!

October 31, 2018 By BrightGreenDoor

Hey everyone, today is week five of the One Room Challenge and the FINAL update before next week’s reveal! I actually can’t believe that it’s almost done. The most exciting part of this update is that my window FINALLY arrived and I got it installed this week!

In case you need to get caught up, here’s how we got to the point of this mudroom update:

Week 1- Plans and Demolition, Week 2- Framing and Building the Mudroom, Week 3- Wallpaper on the ceiling, Week 4- Wardrobes and Built in Bench

Now that the window is finally in I could move the door from the opening into our house to be the new door to the garage. I left it bright white so that it could just blend into this wall.Mudroom with Wallpapered Ceiling

Then once the doorway to the house was open I cased it out with trim to help complete it. I still have lots of painting to do, very soon it will all be a nice bright white. I had to work all the casing around the vent, which we ran under the dining room when we raised it up. This was our addition will be just as warm in the Winter and cool in the Summer as the rest of the house.Mudroom with Step into house

You might have noticed that I also installed the wallpaper above the step! After running out with 4′ left to go I ended up buying an ENTIRE double roll to cover this small space. So now I’m over budget AND I’ve got almost a full double roll of wallpaper that I don’t need. It is gorgeous though and really makes this whole room.Pax Wardrobes in Mudroom

Here is the view into the mudroom from our Dining Room. Just today after a huge Costco haul it was SO nice to be able to unload everything straight from the garage into the mudroom, rather than through two sets of doors. It’s hard to remember back when we started our renovations and the doorway went straight into the side of the Dining room. Mudroom Doorway

Here’s the view from the kitchen. It just makes me so happy to look out and see that beautiful black door! This is what I’ve got left to do:

  • Paint and Touch up everything
  • Get 7’x10′ rug cut down to fit.
  • Decorate!
  • Photograph

This is looking AMAZING! Can’t wait to see the finished space next week. That hurts to have to buy a WHOLE extra roll of wallpaper, but you’re right – it makes the room!
