We’ve lived in this house exactly one month now, and it’s time to tackle our modern master bedroom makeover. I’m participating in Casa Watkins’ “New Year New Room Challenge” along with lots of other great bloggers. On Instagram I shared this picture which is exactly where this room is at right now.
From a distance it looks pretty clean and fresh, but it’s got it’s share of issues. Issue #1= The Maroon mini blinds. Issue #2- No nightstand or shelf. Issue #3- No chair, bench, or anywhere to sit or set anything. #4- The bedding needs some pattern or texture. Just a month ago, this was the state of this bedroom:
- Master Bedroom Before
It’s a nice bright room, but it didn’t have a light or a large enough closet. We fixed that immediately but adding this West Elm light and these Ikea wardrobes. We also painted the entire room and ceiling “Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace”. Now it’s time to finish designing this space. The first thing I’d like to do is build a channel tufted headboard like this one or this one.
I’ll also be installing dark charcoal roman shades from Blindster. The maroon mini blinds just weren’t cutting it.
I hung some Target sconces that I already owned, but I’d love to swap them out for these ones.
I’d love to get a bench for at the base of the bed, this Article bench is my favorite, but I just can’t spend that much. Here are some of the other ones I like that are a bit cheaper.
I’d also like to add texture or pattern with the bedding. I really like the velvet trim comforter that I have on the bottom, but I’d like to find something to replace the plain black duvet cover. Here’s the two that have caught me eye:
Patterned Quilt * Kinetic Coverlet
I’ll be sticking with this rug that I still really love.Â
So after talking through everything, this is the mood board I put together. I just ordered both bedding sets and I’m just going to have to see it to decide!
If you’re looking to refresh your room for the New Year it doesn’t have to involve a total makeover. Maybe just some new bedding, a new light, or a new rug?! Or maybe it’s tackling a DIY like my headboard project! Thanks for following along!
oooooh this is gonna be so good and i can’t wait to see it!!! YEAH!
OMG. I want that 1st quilt so bad. Love your room plans!
Isn’t it amazing?! I ordered both and I like that one more, but I’m afraid the second one works better with our rug. We’ll see though once I get them on the bed.
Love the plans…can’t wait to see the end results. But I need help…I am planning a ‘master bedroom renovation’. Where do I start? Where do you find your pictures of what you want? I am in Canada and WE don’t have all of the ‘options for shopping’ like you do in the US. I am stuck on…..do I pick my paint colour first….the bedding…the rug…..???? I have an older home….so all of my trim is ‘oak’ and it will be staying…as painting it…is NOT an option….(reason 1…I am disabled and that is just TOO much for me to take on….reason 2….it is beautiful Oak..not the cheapo mass produced type stuff.) I love the look of all these people painting the cheap core doors Iron Ore….Charcoal …or whatever colour…but with the Oak colour…I am not sure… My bedroom is NOT big and I do not have a big budget…a lot of bloggers are posting unrealistic things for the ‘every day’ person in my mind. (I can’t afford to shop at Nordstrom’s…even if we had one) Does any of this help? My furniture is ‘French Provincial’ which I have painted already 3 times…(been a DIYer..longer than some of you have been alive). It is now a Metallic Silver…would even like to change that …when our Canadian winter goes away…. Any ideas will help…Sorry I rambled…
Thank you so much for your comment! Here’s a post I wrote a while back on how I start a room makeover: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/design-a-room-from-inspiration-photos/. Let me know if it’s helpful! I like to stick with one neutral paint color throughout my entire house. I also think oak trim can still be beautiful. I stuck with it in our last house and I loved it. I think Wayfair.ca ships most of their same products to Canada and has tons of affordable beautiful stuff. Lindi from https://lovecreatecelebrate.com/ is a Canadian blogger and has a gorgeous home. She may have some suggestions for shipping in Canada. Oh and also I wrote this post on how to create a mood board: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/how-to-make-a-mood-board/. Often doing that in advance will save you from costly mistakes! Thanks a ton for reading and good luck with your makeover! I have confidence in you!
I’m excited to see that HEADBOARD!!!
Thanks! I’m waiting for the foam to arrive. I can’t wait to tackle it!
Yay Jess! I’m so glad you are participating with us. LOVE the design plan. It looks so sophisticated! You’ve been so busy in your new house!
It was a last minute decision. Thank you! Yes we’ve been working hard non-stop. Glad to be in such good company on this challenge!
