Hey guys! Today I’m so happy to be able to share our modern master bathroom mood board and renovation update with you all! I shared our initial walkthrough tour here, and a progress update here. It feels SO good to FINALLY be at the point of picking out decor and finishes. Let me walk you through where this master bathroom has come from.Â
THIS is where we started. It was actually a really cute little green bathroom. BUT it didn’t have a shower, or a double sink. We decided to tear into the oversized hall bathroom, close off a doorway, and create a more substantial master bathroom. In order to understand our plans, here are the blueprints I submitted for approval:
- “Before”
- “After”
The day we closed on this house we began demo. It was a TON of work and involved renting a jackhammer to remove the old tile.Â
Then we framed in the new shower stall, closed off the old doorway, and created a wall closing off the other bathroom.Â
Here is the view from the other bathroom to help understand the wall we closed off.
The next project was filling the old plumbing holes with cement, and then using a self-leveling cement to create a level floor between the two spaces. Next we installed a shower niche, hung hardi-backer in the shower, and drywall everywhere else. Throughout this time we also had our plumber and electrician here installing a fan, sconces, GFCI switches, moving the toilet, and adding shower lines and a drain.Â
Next came my least favorite part of the project, taping and sanding the drywall. This took me a LONG time, but I’m grateful that I tackled it myself saving us about $800.Â
Just last night I FINALLY finished sanding drywall, and I was able to match the vintage texture on the walls with this product. It’s just a primer with sand in it, but it blended the old and new walls perfectly.
It’s been exactly a month since we closed on the house and I am OVERJOYED To finally be at this point! I just put paint on the walls and tonight I’m starting the tiling!
Here’s my plan for this master bathroom, now that we are on to some of the more fun details! I’m going with brass accents, and using a Mid-Century Dresser as the vanity base. I am using subway tile on the walls, and a black slate tile on the floors. For the small remaining walls I am painting them Sherwin Williams “Night Owl”, which is actually leftover paint from our Senior House kitchen island! I don’t know how I ended up holding onto it because I always leave paint with houses??? Either way I had it on hand and still really like the color.

Now that I’m onto tiling, it actually won’t be long until this bathroom comes together! What do you think of the brass accents? Also did you notice we’ve got two bit windows in here?! I’m going to have to get creative to come up with a privacy solution! Thanks a ton for stopping by today and checking out our renovation progress and bathroom mood board!
Can you tell me what your bathroom dimensions are?
Yes! I actually went and measured my friends similar bathroom when I was in the planning stages. Ours is 5′ wide and almost 11′ long. The shower is 36″ wide, then there’s 36″ for the toilet, and 54″ for the vanity. Thanks!
how do you create the design with your supplies on the white background?
I use Olioboard! Here is the link to my tutorial on how to use it: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/how-to-make-a-mood-board/
Lovely! Dresser is way cooler than any stock vanity you would find. how do you create the design with your supplies on the white background? That would be so helpful when trying to design my bath & kitchen!
Here is my post outlining how I do it: https://www.brightgreendoor.com/how-to-make-a-mood-board/ Thank you so much!
