I am SO Crazy excited to share today’s post with you all! Today I get to reveal our new kitchen skylights! They’re VELUX No Leak Solar Powered “Fresh Air” Skylights and I am in love with them.
If you’ve been following for a long time, maybe you’ve followed the evolution of our kitchen? First it was dated and creamy with a huge fluorescent light.
Then I moved around some cabinets and modernized it with black paint, but it was still really dark and dreary.
When VELUX first approached me about the idea of skylights I knew they would be the answer. The natural light from the skylights would make it possible to keep my dark black cabinets without losing them in the shadows.
The Process to Getting Kitchen Skylights
The first step to getting our skylights was having a local installer come out. They walked me through my options and we came up with a great plan that included a huge light well (the drywall box around the skylights that’s typical of skylight installations in rooms with flat ceilings) and two skylights. Through the VELUX website you can find a skylight installer along with typical skylight installation costs.
When the crew from Wisconsin Sunlight Solutions came out to install the VELUX Skylights they were super professional and completely tarped off the entire kitchen. I couldn’t wait to see the progress from the other side!
The Benefits of Skylights
As soon as they dropped the tarp I was in LOVE! Not only do the skylights look amazing but there’s TONS of other great features!
- They can be opened with a remote control or smartphone app to create air flow
- The skylights have solar powered blinds, giving me the ability to control the sunlight.
- There is a built-in rain sensor, so I don’t need to worry about leaving them open. The rain sensor automatically triggers the skylight to close at the first sign of bad weather.
- VELUX includes a 10-year No Leak guarantee.
Now that the skylights are installed, the kitchen feels SO much bigger and brighter. Some of my favorite features like the backsplash, countertops, brass fixtures, and rug can really shine!
After completely falling in love with my skylights, VELUX asked if they could come out and shoot a promotional video of our home. It was my first professional video shoot and it was SO cool to see everything that goes into shooting professional video. Thankfully I’m able to share it with you all here!
I hope that you love the new skylights as much as I do! If you’ve got any dark rooms in your home these are SUCH a good option for bringing light into any space!
