Thank you SO much for being here today! Today I’m sharing about my “One Room Challenge” progress! Last week I kicked off the challenge by sharing my before pictures and mood board, today I’m sharing everything we’ve accomplished in the last week.
You might remember that we had old dirty white carpet, and baby blue walls. I started by removing all of the trim and painting the walls my favorite neutral color: Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Grey. After everything was painted, it was time for some flooring.
Over the last few years we’ve installed laminate flooring in three difference houses, and we knew this is what we wanted to here. We love laminate flooring because it’s affordable, and easy to install on our own.
Our entire main level has Oak floors, so we wanted to mimic that look and give the impression that the upstairs had original Oak flooring. This Butterscotch Oak Laminate was a good choice that matched the rest of the house, but gave the room an updated look with the wide planks.
Over the years I have purchased flooring online numerous times, but I had never done it from a store where I could actually go and touch and see the flooring. This time I chose to work with Lumber Liquidators, mainly because I was able to go to the store and see the flooring in person. I was impressed by the wide variety of flooring, and the fact that the flooring we chose was in stock so we were able to pick up the product the day that we picked it out.
In the past I shared my Tips and Tricks for laying flooring, so I won’t go into too much detail here. The thing that I REALLY loved about this flooring was that the underlayment was pre-attached to the planks. This made it SO much easier and eliminated a lot of frustration when dealing with a roll of underlayment.
I ended up laying the entire floor, start to finish in ONE school day! Yes, this stay at home mom/DIY’er laid an entire room of flooring entirely while her kids were at school. No… I am not a rockstar, laying laminate flooring is actually that easy! It also helped that we had prepped the room the day before by removing trim, carpet, staples, and vacuuming.
We’re hoping to continue the flooring through the rest of the upstairs, so for now we just have the carpet folded back where it meets the laminate.
It is SO much better than the white carpet. It also has a lot of texture and woodgrain, making it look a lot more real.
**This post contains affiliate links** I love how easy these are to keep clean and I love the look of them. If I were to build a new house I wouldn’t put carpet anywhere! Although I don’t love carpet, I DO love a good rug! There’s just something about stepping out of bed onto a rug, rather than the cold wood. Thankfully I found this amazing rug that is perfect for the room.
At night it looks like a deep charcoal grey, during the day it looks light and bright, and sometimes it even has some greenish tones to it. The best part about it is that it is velvety soft.
So at this point we’ve got the walls and ceilings painted, the flooring installed, and this amazing new rug in place! We’ve been sleeping in twin beds in the girl room through these renovations, so I am anxious to get it trimmed and get our bed back in here!
I was fortunate enough to be able to work together with Lumber Liquidators on this post, but all opinions are completely my own. If you’re in the market for new flooring I highly recommend that you visit your local Lumber Liquidators to see all of their great options! You might be surprised how affordably you’ll be able to make such a drastic change to your space!

Thank you so much! I am so happy with how it turned out! Thank you so much for following along with our progress.
The floor looks great!!
How resilient is laminate flooring like that? Do you need to seal it regularly? Or seal it at all? Is it good for frequent mopping and heavy, daily traffic? Have you heard of the tile that looks like wood? Do you have any thoughts on it?
It doesn’t ever need to be sealed. I use a Bona mop with their spray on it frequently and it holds up really well. I wouldn’t recommend using water with a mop though in case it got through the cracks. It handles traffic really well, thats why we chose it. My parents installed the tile that looks like wood throughout their entire house and it’s awesome. It’s a bit cold if you live in a cold climate, but if you live somewhere hot it’s awesome. Or if you install radiant heat. It’s super durable though.
