As much as I love old houses for all their character and charm, they seem to always lack when it comes to storage. Because we don’t have a mudroom, entry, or much of a front closet I had to get creative when it came to where to store our shoes. Thankfully the hallway back to the master bedroom is extra wide, giving me room to create this hallway shoe storage solution!
When we bought the house I knew that I wanted to do something special with the extra space on the way back to the master bedroom, but I wasn’t sure if I should do a planked wall, wainscoting, or an accent wall. That was all until I found these cabinets.
I started by purchasing three of these cabinets online. I didn’t really love the silver plastic legs, so I bought three sets of legs from Ikea (which appear to be discontinued).
After attaching the legs I just lined all three cabinets up along the wall and then secured them to the wall.
They are super functional and actually hold a lot of shoes!
These would also work great in a closet with an open end wall, or even in a bedroom where it isn’t deep  enough to put a dresser.
Because the door knob would hit the cabinet, we chose to keep the last one open, and instead created a little bookshelf there. The door knob fits perfectly into the open space when it is open.
When we laid our flooring and replaced the trim we even trimmed around the cabinets to make them feel more built in.
So did I get your wheels turning on a unused space where you could create some more storage?! Are you aching for some shoe cabinets of your own?
