When we began our adventure with this auction house every room had these “boob lights” in them. Although they’re not terrible, they’re also not my style.
For a long time I’ve loved all of the different industrial barn lights at Barn Light Electric, but haven’t been able to stomach over $100 for each light fixture.
So last year when I was in Minnesota at I came across this vintage enamel barn light shade for $12 and I snagged it. Then I picked up this pendant kit for $15 at Menards.
All I did was put them together, take down the boob light, and then wire the new light in it’s place. The ceiling also needed some touch up paint from where the boob light had been.
I love everything about my new industrial barn light. The Edison bulb I put in it really is perfect. It also looks awesome alongside my midcentury dresser!
The inside of the shade has some imperfections, but I love that it has a history.
This light would be our third industrial inspired light in this house, with our kitchen pendant lights and the boy’s basket light being my earlier lighting creations. Of course in our last house I DIY’ed some lighting as well, including an industrial kitchen pendant, and a hanging ORB light. You think I like some DIY lighting?!? Now I’ve only got two more lights to replace and if you’d believe it I’m not DIY’ing the fixtures!!
I also just have to mention that widening the window above the bed was one of the best design decisions that we’ve made. If you have to have a window above the bed, then I suggest I wide one like this!
It’s no secret I love your style…but I really love your bedding! The light looks perfect in there too. Awesome job!
Aw thanks! I love it too, it took about trying three different comforters before I finally found one I really love.
LOVE this! And the whole room as well!
