Today I’m sharing the DIY Cage light that I built using hanging garden baskets!
Basically, when we moved into the house I hated the wood shade dining light, but we weren’t in the market to spring for a new $100+ light fixture. I picked up two hanging garden baskets from the hardware store. Next I took down the existing light and unscrewed the wood shade. Then I spray painted the old light and garden cages oil rubbed bronze. Last I zip tied the cages together around the old light, put new light bulbs in it, and hung it back up! The entire project rang in under $20!!
I figured I might as well also share a flashback to how far our little Dining Nook has come! (Last update was a year ago after tearing down floral wallpaper). Out went the old (hanging plant, curtains, shutters, carpet, wood shade, floral wallpaper, and black table). In came the new (metal chairs, new tile, bench, beautiful table, curtains, and light). The table and chairs were the other comprimise in our purchase agreement so sadly I have to part with all the aspects of my little nook. After all this work I hope they enjoy it!!
If you’re considering DIY’ing a light here’s a few other DIY lights I’ve made in the past:
If you’ve got more than $20 and DIY isn’t your thing, here are some of my favorite farmhouse light fixtures, all under $200!
