Today I’m participating in the #SwapItLikeItsHot challenge! Basically, a group of DIY bloggers each went thrift store shopping with $10-$15. After purchasing a few unique finds, we boxed them up and sent them to another blogger! I had a great vision for the items I purchased, but those got shipped off and I received….
I’m sure that Jess from Decor Adventures had a great plan for what to do with some hoops, a wood moose, and some embroidery hoops, but I was at a TOTAL loss. I started out my cutting the plastic chargers into slices and drilling holes in each slice.
Then I added some yarn to the hoop as some type of dream catcher.
Then I tied on the slices from the plate, and attached it to the leftover portion of the charger. I had a modern dream catcher… but I just wasn’t satisfied with it.
So I took the Welcome sign off of the moose, sliced off the ends, and cut it into four strips.
Then I took two of the embroidery hoops and glued the strips onto them, making a cylinder.
Then I took some black yarn and started wrapping it around the hoops.
I ended up adding a few wires to it and attaching it to this blank lightbulb in our hallway.
Honestly, I can’t say that I really love it, but it was better than the blank bulb, and better than the dream catcher… I think.
I don’t know if I can quite call this a “DIY Fail”… but it definitely wasn’t my best project.
It does have sort of a neat sculptural look to it though.
I felt like this #SwapItLikeItsHot challenge was the true test of my creativity, and I feel like I barely passed the test. Either way it was fun to shop for the stuff that I sent, and I can’t wait to see if the other DIY blogger’s had more success than I did! Head on over to Allison at Two Thirty Five Designs to see what I sent her and see what she decided to do with it!
