Today Marks two full weeks since our “Gotcha Day”, January 22, 2017. While we were still in Haiti I shared this update, but I thought you might like to hear about life since then! I try to keep my BrightGreenDoor Instagram mostly about home stuff, so I’ve shared some of our journey on my personal Instagram, and I’ll share a few of those posts here.
After two weeks home, I’ll tell you that for as many beautiful and happy moments, there have been as many tantrums, corrections, and frustrations. She is a typical four year old, but also is dealing with all of the emotions that come with a new home, new family, new language, new foods, and more. We had definitely been in a sweet spot with the boys where they could dress themselves, play independently, even make basic snacks and meals. Now it’s like having a curious toddler all over again, who needs our constant supervision and attention. Blogging has taken a back seat, homeschooling has involved a lot more “independent work”, and honestly, even getting a meal on the table is a feat! We are SO thankful for our church family who helped us by delivering groceries, and has been bringing multiple meals a week.
Our road to bring home our daughter has been a long and hard one, and even though she is home, the struggle definitely isn’t over. If you’re wanting to learn more about how to support adoptive families, and children from hard places there is a Simulcast coming up that I HIGHLY recommend. Honestly, I can’t wait to attend again! Otherwise, this book can give you a crash course in these fundamentals. I also wanted to mention that even though our daughter is home, we’re still struggling to pay for some of the lingering costs. Our homecoming trip cost around $3,000 and we have $1,600 due to our local agency for follow-up visits. If supporting our family and her adoption is on your heart, the link to give is here. Going forward I’ll probably keep the blog to mostly DIY, Design, and recipes, with the occasional “five on Friday” post thrown in to keep you updated! Thank you so much for following along in our journey and continuing to pray for our family!
